2013 i bilder

It was a long winter full of snow.

We got new people helping us with the horses.

Ullekalvs Antea was born April 14.

In April Sylvia's Rockies arrived, and in the summer Rockies arrived in Denmark.

When Tea got a little bit older she and her mum got to meet Pepper.

Jousting games at the castle, as usual in May, we used the scene for photos.

Percy and I nearly had the same due day.

David, our son that was born  June 26, grew as well as Embla.

I November I experienced my first hoof abscess - and then Tea got it back and Embla got one as well...

Embla grew up and left for her new home December 27.

Tea has grown as well. She stays with us to be a future brood mare.

It might not be very obvious yet, but we are expecting two foals in May 2014.

Lek med hästarna

MOVIE

På sistone har jag lekt en hel del med hästarna i hagen. Det är kul hur olika de är: Percy behöver motiveras för att sätta fart, men sedan satsar hon järnet. Bunny (som inte är med i filmen) får man passa så hon inte smiter genom grinden och tillbaka till stallet. Pepper går helst på volter nära mig och lyssnar mest på mig. Tea har bara försökt en gång och fick med sig mycket mer vana Calinka som stöd. 

 

Playing with the horses

Lately I have played a lot with the horses in a part of the pasture. They differ a lot: Percy needs to be motivated to start, but then she give it all. Bunny (not in the video) needs to be watched carefully so she don't crash into the gate and head back to the stable. Pepper mostly do circle around me and is most sensitive at my body language. Tea has only tried once and  she got Calinka as a mentor as she knows the routine very well.

She has to catch some air...

Hejdå Embla!

Idag åkte Embla till sitt nya hem. Hon lastades lätt in i transporten. Men först vart det veterinärbesiktning på kliniken i Mantorp. Det tog hon med ro, även om hon kände sig lite ensam. Roligast var när hon skulle springa, hon följde med om man sprang före henne, lös i ridhuset. Att lastas för vidare resa var lite tråkigare, men det gick bra och nu är hon framme om än lite trött efter dagens vedermödor.

Nu önskar jag henne och nya matte allt gott!

Bye Embla!

It is a big place, with many trotters and their racetrack.

Today Embla left for her new home. She loaded easily in the trailer. But first we stopped for a pre-purchase check in Mantorp.She took it well, but felt a bit alone. Most fun was when she was supposed to run; she only did that if someone run in-front of her. To load once more to continue the trip wasn't her favorite, but it went well. Now she is in her new home, a little tired from all new things during the day.

Hästägare och Jul

En favorit när det kommer till julafton är att börja dagen istället. Att komma upp en stund till hästarna, pyssla om dem och rida ut en kortare tur barbacka är en så skön kontrast mot resten av dagen när min familj mest sitter inne, äter eller väntar på tomten. Allting annat kan läggas åt sidan en stund, ingen stress för att packa in alla i bilen eller laga mat eller... Bara avslappnat med hästanra.

I år lyckades jag (tyvärr) inte helt; tiden i stallet blev för kort för en ridtur och jag prioriterade att ge varje häst en stunds uppmärksamhet. Så, alla blev borstade och fick göra något trick för att få lite julgodis (morot och knäckebröd). Fölisarna däremot har itne riktigt förstått detta med "godis" ännu; Embla kunde äta morot men Tea ville inget ha.

Juldagen hade jag något mera tid (och mörker), men förutom lite uppmärksamhet till varje häst blev det dressyr med pannlampa på en pigg Calinka. Inte fel för att ordna med någon form av aptit till kvällen.

Idag, annandagen, blev det däremot lite mera tid - 45 minuter med Bunny. Mest i skritt, men hon blev lite svettig i alla fall. Kondisen är inte i topp, men pälsen lång. Pepper tömkördes och var slö - dessutom passerade Sylvia och tre ryttare till så han var ju tvungen att titta på dem. Men, inga skrik, rop eller stress - han ville bara kolla på dem. Skönt. Embla och Tea fick lite ledträning och Percy och jag lekt i hagen. Hon börjar veta vad som gäller och gillar det.

Horse-owner and Christmas

A favorite at Christmas Eve is to stat the day in the stable. (In Sweden we celebrate Christmas Eve more than Christmas Day and Santa Clause comes with all presents in the evening, traditional food is eaten etc). To start the day caring for the horses, cuddle and go for a shorter bareback trail ride is a nice contrast to the rest of the day when my family is mostly indoors, eating and waiting for Santa Clause. In the morning everything can be put aside, no stress to get everyone and everything in the car, cook food or...  Just chilling with the horse.

This year I (sadly) didn't get enough time to ride and prioritized to give every horse some attention. I groomed everyone and got them to make some tricks for candy (carrots and hard bread). The foals haven't really got the candy thing yet; Embla like carrots but not the bread and Tea didn't wont any of it.

Christmas day I got some more time (and darkness), but some attention to each and everyone and bareback dressage with my headlamp and Calinka. Not a bad way to get some appetite for the evening.

Today I got some more time - 45 minutes with Bunny at the trails. Mostly walk, but she got some sweaty anyway. She isn't in the best shape but her fur is long. I ling reined Pepper and he was very lazy. Sylvia passed with three more riders so he got a bit distracted as he wanted to look at them. But, he didn't call at them, trying to follow, show of or anything - just wanted to stand still and watch. Good. I did some lead training with Embla and Tea and played with Percy in the pasture. She starts to know what it is all about and likes it.

Varför har vi inte tänkt på det - handhäst

Förra året red vi med handhäst både Maria och jag några gångar. I år har vi helt lyckats glömma det... Men idag kom jag ihåg det och var ute med Calinka och percy. Förvisso ville inte Percy gå så fort, men vi tog oss fram bra och passerade två minimala diken på våran väg.
Pepper och jag lekte lite och han passade på att rulla sig. Däremot var det helt ok att vänta på att få gå ut en stund. han som annars bankar i dörren om han får vänta. Nu visste han att han fick vara själv kvar för att hinna torka så mycket som möjligt så jag kunde borsta och lägga på täcke. Den där hästen slutar aldrig förvåna mig.

Why haven't we thought about that?

Last year both Maria and I rode with an extra horse on a lead rope. Now we have totaly forgot about it... But today I remembered and brought Calinka and Percy. Percy wasn't very fast, but we wlaked our way - even crossing two minimal ditches.

Pepper and I played a little and he got to roll. For once he was fine with waiting to get out as both of us knew he had to dry so I could brush some mud away before putting on the rug. He never stops to amaze me.

Ridning - äntligen!

Vissa stunder undrar jag om det är värt allt slit med hästarna, all tid, jobb och pengar.  Tur att det då finns dagar när man blir lycklig bara av att se hästarna i hagen, hur de ser lika nöjda ut och söker mitt sällskap. Det hela toppas av att hästen långt bort i hagen kommer i galopp!

This year.

Last year, same place, same horse, same day...

Igår blev det en uteritt på Calinka i sällskap med Sylvia och ryttare hos henne. För ovanlighetens skull tyckte de att vi travade för långsamt - jag är så van att bromsa Calinka så andra hinner med att jag blev förvånad när de bad mig öka... Innan vi mötte Sylvia han jag sitta och filosofera med min häst. Vad jag har saknat det! Jag insåg att det är ett sätt för mig att tänka igenom och reflektera över saker. Mycket brukar lösa sig bara genom det.

Idag hann jag ut med Bunny en vända - precis ett år efter att vi gjorde samma tur innan vi åkte till Italien. I år stannar vi hemma, men jag lyckades få bild från samma plats som då. Bara en viss skillnad i väderlek.

Dessutom han jag tömköra Pepper. Det märks att han har för mycket energi, han fokuserade dåligt på mig när det blåste. Hoppas vi kan börja jobba lite mer regelbundet framöver. I alla fall lyckades jag till slut få till ett bra pass. Kul! Dessutom stretchade jag Pepper efteråt. Vissa saker har tycker han är jobbigt, medan annat som jag aldrig fått Calinka till fungerar utan problem. De har väll olika "problemområden" skulle jag tro. Mysigt att bli ompysslad tyckte han oavsett.

Horseback time - finally!

Some times I wonder if it is worth all the work with the horses, all time and money. Then there are days when i get happy only by looking at the horses in the pasture, notice how they get equally happy to see me and to top in all the horse far away come cantering!

Yesterday Calinka and  I got on a trail ride with Sylvia and her friends. Nice with people that can get their horses to trott - we are so used to slow down and this time they wanted us to speed up. Before we meet Sylvia I got some time to think while riding my horse. I have missed that! I realized that it is really good for me and that it often makes me come up with solutions to things that bothers me at the moment.

Today I had time to bring Bunny out for a while - exactly one year since we did the same tour, the day before we went to Italy. This year on the other hand is going to be Christmas at home. I got a picture then and one today - only the weather differs.

I also long reined Pepper. He had all to much energy and had trouble to concentrate in the wind. I hope to work him more regular in the future. Anyway, it got better and better and. Fun! I stretched Pepper afterwards. He found some things a little hard, but others that Calinka alway
s had found troublesome don't bother him a bit. I guess they have different "problem areas". Still, he really liked the attention.

Embla and Tea plays
