Ambitionsnivån ändras genom livet

I might be 14 years old and my riding my wonderful anglo-arabian that was 26 at that time.

Som tonåring var min målsättning att hästen skulle jobbas sex dagar i veckan, året runt och omkring en timme. Trots att jag flera år hade en drygt tjugofemårig häst och aldrig tävlade eller åkt till tränare med mina hästar ( mina föräldrar vägrade bestämt köra hästsläp). Nästan alltid red jag på de hästar jag hade, red ut i skogen hela vintrarna jag kan inte minnas att jag hade någon pannlampa i mörkret. Väder och vind fick man bara acceptera.

När jag som nittonåring köpte jag min första häst Calinka insåg jag att det kanske inte gick att få in riktigt lika mycket arbete. Det blev vanligare med två vilodagar i veckan och passen blev ofta snarare omkring femtio minuter (de flesta uterittsslingor tog den tiden för oss). Dessutom en belyst ridbana! Långsamt blev det fler pass från marken, löshopning, tömkörning, löslongering...

En vattendelare var nog när jag fick första barnet, det minskade än mer på motionen. Calinka blev i sämre form än någonsin. Sedan kom det in flera hästar och en mängd hinder på vägen i form av förkylningar, jobbresor, ytterligare graviditet.... Så nu blir jag allt bättre på att jobba häst på kort tid, gärna flera på samma gång, från marken och med så lite utrustning som möjligt. Ridpassen är oftare 30 minuter än 60 och jobbas alla hästarna varannan dag tycker jag det går väldigt bra... När regnet öser ner föredrar både jag och åtminstone Calinka att träna trick inomhus ( övriga verkar inte heller missbelåtna).  Undrar hur det blir framåt till?

Jag kommer nog aldrig att återgå till att jobba alla hästar en timme om dagen sex dagar i veckan främst under sadel. Däremot hoppas jag på bättre kontinuitet och mer arbete. Men, alla roliga sätt att jobba häst utan att rida skulle jag inte vilja vara utan!

Now days: Pepper in the pasture

As a teenager my goal was to work my horse six days a week for about an hour. Even as I had a horse that was twentyfive years when I started that idea, never competed or took lessons with that horse (my parents refuse to drive me anywhere with a horse). I almost always spent time on the trails all year around and I can't remeber that I had any head lamp even in the darkness. The weather was just to accept.

When I turned 19 I bought my first own horse (before I had only borrowed or helped neighbors) and realized that I might not have really as much time to spend with my horse. It got more common with two days of each week and I usually only spent about 50 minutes in the saddle (mostly because the trails I had access took that time for us to complete). We also had a lit up arena so we started to spend more time there, beginning to learn how to long rein, jump without a rider, work the horse free...

Now days - working horses together with my kids.

I guess one big change came with my first child, that made me work my horse even less. Calinka got less fit than ever. Then I got more horses and ton of obstacles in the form of colds, trips with work, one more pregnancy... 

So I get better and better to work my horses quickly, preferably more than one at the same time and from the ground with as little equipment as possible. It is much more common that I spend 30 minutes in the saddle at a specific horse than 60 and that the horses works every second day if I have a good period and have enough time... When the rain ours down both me and my horse prefer to stay indoors and do some trick training. I wonder what this is going to turn into?

I don't think that I ever is going to work all my horse an hour a day six days a week mostly under saddle. But I hope they get better conditioned and more consistency in my work. And I really hope I am going to continue to work my horses in a lot of different ways!
