Sveriges förstfödda Rocky!

Idag kom hon - Sveriges förstfödda Rocky Mountain.

Igår fick Bunny stå inne i boxen igen, hon kom till och med upp till Maria som var där och bad att få komma in. Maria sa att hon inte trodde Bunny skulle föla under natten - och det hade hon rätt i...

Imorse skulle jag hämta Sandra vid bussen vid 10.  När jag stod och bytte om ringde Birth Alarmet. Jag visste att det kunde vara bråttom och att jag kanske skulle vara tvungen att vänta några minuter på Sandra så jag ringde Maria och bad henne åka.  Sandra var redan framme när jag kom till bussen så vi åkte direkt och hann före Maria upp. När vi kom fram var bebis redan född. Det måste ha gått fort.

Bebis var pigg och det tog inte en timme innan hon var på fötterna. Efter en ungefär en och en halv timme diade hon för första gången och efter ungefär tre timmar kom mekoniumet. Det mesta enligt skolboken alltså.

Det enda var nog att navelsträngen var väldigt kraftig så redan när vi kom hade efterbörden kommit - och satt fortfarande ihop med fölis. Det blev att ta av den med en kniv då det inte gick att dra av den. Därmed blev den även längre än vad jag hade tänkt. 

När Maria kom upp efter lite lunch var Bunny väldigt trött. Hon låg ner och ville inte resa sig. Hon hade ingen feber och slemhinnorna hade fin färg och hon drack lite vatten och hade ätit bra med hö tidigare. Men såg för stunden mest apatisk ut. Det blev ett samtal till veterinären som tyckte att det nog var bäst att kolla till det hela, men inte heller han hittade något och när han anlände en och en halv timme senare var Bunny precis som vanligt. Bara att hoppas att det fortsätter så. Fölis har hela tiden varit pigg och glad.

I det stora hela verkar allting ha gått bra och jag tycker Bunny valde bästa möjliga dag att föla - den varmaste dagen detta år och när snön nästan är helt borta i hagen. Samt en söndagförmiddag när jag ändå var påväg till stallet!

Namn då? Ullekalv's Antea är tanken. Antea ska på latin betyda "den första" och det är hon ju verkligen och jag tyckte hon behövde ett passande namn för att understryka det. Till vardags får det däremot bli Tea.

Sweden's first born Rocky!

She arrived today - the first Rocky Mountain horse born in Sweden.

Yesterday Bunny got to stay in the stall and she even came to Maria and wanted to get in. Maria didn't believe that she would foal during the night - and she was right...

This morning I was going to meet Sandra at the bus at 10 am. When I was changing clothes to go to the stable the Birth Alarm called. I knew I could be a hurry to get there and as I might have to wait a couple of minutes for Sandra I called Mara and asked if she could go. Sandra was already at the bus stop when I arrived so we took of and arrived before Maria to the stable. But the baby was already born. It must have been a quick birth.

The baby was alert and it didn't take an hour before she was at her feet. After about one and a half hour she was feeding and after about three hours she pooped. Mostly according to the books in other words.

The only thing that didn't go according to the books was that the umbilical cord didn't break by it self - in stead it came with all the placenta and was already out when we got there. I tried to tear it of,b ut it was to strong so I finally had to use a knife. Therefore it also became longer than I had planned.

 

All in all it worked out perfectly and Bunny chose a perfect day to give birth - the warmest day so far this year and nearly all snow is gone now. And it was a Sunday morning when I already was on my way to the stable.

When Maria came back after a couple of hours Bunny was very tired. She was laying down and didn't want to get on her feet. She didn't have any fever and she had a nice color in her mouth. Previously she had been eatin and she drank a little and let the baby feed. But she was extremely tired. I called the vet and he thought he should take a look. He couldn't find any problem and when he arrived one and a half hour later Bunny was back to normal. I just hope it continues like that. The baby has been fine all the time.

Name then? Ullekalv's Antea. In latin that is supposed to mean "the first" so I thought that to be suitable. As barn name Tea would do fine.

Of course the stall door was open and Tea started of by walking outside. The others got really interested and Calinka have been close by most of the day.
